Past Perfect Tense digunakan untuk mengungkapkan hal-hal berikut:
- Suatu tindakan yang terjadi sebelum tindakan lain terjadi di masa lampau.
- Suatu kejadian atau kondisi atau peristiwa yang berlangsung selama waktu tertentu di masa lampau, tapi sudah berhenti sebelum sekarang.
Tanda waktu (time markers) yang biasa di pakai dalam past perfect tense:
