Kalimat passive (pasif) terbentuk dari to be + past participle.
Kalimat pasif ini terbentuk apabila objek yang dikenai berada di posisi subjek atau sebelum kata kerja.
Contoh:
- The room is cleaned everyday. (present)
- The orange was eaten. (past)
- The document will be completed soon. (future)
- I have been called. (present perfect)
- It is being done. (continuous)
Fungsi kalimat pasif adalah untuk menginformasikan sesuatu yang sengaja dikenai (di-) atau menunjukkan ketidaksengajaan (ter-).
Berdasarkan contoh-contoh di atas, dapat diketahui bila kalimat pasif memiliki aneka bentuk yang sama dengan aktif yaitu present, past, future, dan present perfect.
