Adjective (Kata Sifat) merupakan kata yang berfungsi memodifikasi atau menjelaskan kata benda.
Contoh:
- Beautiful dress
- Handsome boy
- Bad temperature
Articles a, an, dan the termasuk kata sifat.
Adjective (Kata Sifat) mudah dibentuk menjadi adjective phrase dan adjective clause.
Adjective phrase merupakan gabungan kata yang terdiri dari kata sifat dan kata benda.
Contoh:
- It's a nice day.
- My father got bad news.
- We have delicious cakes.
Adjective clause adalah gabungan kata yang terdiri dari subjek dan kata kerja berfungsi sebagai adjektif.
Contoh:
- My sister, who is taller than I am, is a doctor.
- I know Kevin, who is the smartest in the class.
- Drew, who is very beautiful came to my house.
Posisi Adjective (Kata Sifat)
Diletakkan sebelum kata benda atau frase kata benda.
Contoh:
- She has nice car.
- The kids played interesting games.
- I hate dark room.
Diletakkan setelah kata ganti seperti someone, something, anybody.
Contoh:
- Something wicked this way comes.
- Someone bad should be punished.
- Anyone capable of doing evil must be in jail.
Untuk kata sifat yang dikombinasikan dengan kata tertentu dapat diletakkan setelah kata benda.
Contoh:
- President elect gives speech.
- The prince lives in New York proper.
- Sir Albert, heir apparent to the Glitzy fortune, lives in Paris proper.
Tingkatan Adjective (Kata Sifat)
Positive Adjective adalah kata sifat yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan sebuah kata benda atau frase kata benda.
Contoh:
- Jimmy is kind.
- The view is gorgeous.
- His life was properous.
Comparative Adjective adalah kata sifat yang digunakan untuk membandingkan dua hal,
Contoh:
- She is older than Gina.
- Meatball is more delicious than fried rice.
- Michael Jordan is taller than Michael Jackson.
Superlative Adjective adalah kata sifat yang digunakan untuk membandingkan satu hal diantara tiga hal lainnya atau lebih (menunjukkan yang ter-/paling).
Contoh:
- He is the richest.
- You are only the best I ever had.
- It is the worst day for me.
